As the founder of a new watch brand, looking back on the last ten years fills me with a mix of pride and nostalgia. The journey has been anything but straightforward, full of trials, errors, and invaluable lessons learned along the way. Today, I want to share the story behind our first watch design, which is now in the exciting final stages of development.

A Decade in the Making

My journey began a decade ago, fueled by a passion for horology and a dream to create something unique. In the beginning, I had little knowledge of watch design or manufacturing. Armed with determination, I plunged into research. Countless hours spent reading books and browsing online platforms allowed me to learn the basics.

My first few attempts were far from successful. Designing a watch was more challenging than I ever imagined. I faced numerous setbacks, from choosing the wrong materials to misjudging the mechanics. Each mistake was a hard lesson, but it made me wiser.

For those who aspire to venture into the watch industry, my advice is simple: be prepared for a long journey of trial and error. Stay committed, absorb knowledge, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Building Partnerships

One of the critical moments in my journey was when I partnered with Chris Weigand of Lum-Tec Watches. With over a decade of experience in the microbrand watch space, Chris brought a wealth of knowledge. His expertise in sourcing materials and navigating manufacturing processes proved invaluable.

Working with Chris reshaped my approach. He introduced me to a network of suppliers and manufacturers who understood the nuances of crafting quality timepieces. Together, we analyzed designs, studied trends, and focused on the specific needs of watch enthusiasts.

By collaborating with someone who shares the same passion, I was able to accelerate progress significantly. Chris's insights into the microbrand industry illuminated paths I had not previously considered.

Final Stages of Design

We are now at an exhilarating juncture: choosing the dial color schemes. After numerous discussions and tests, we narrowed down a few options. This stage is crucial because the dial serves as the face of the watch. It reflects its identity and can evoke emotions.

In selecting colors, we considered not just aesthetics but also the principles of color theory. Colors can affect mood and perception. For example, a deep blue signifies trust and reliability, while a vibrant orange can exude energy and enthusiasm. Each color we choose will tell a story and connect with our potential customers.

The excitement builds as we prepare for prototype production, which will feature the chosen colors and designs. I can hardly wait to share pictures and videos of the prototypes. What started as sketches will soon become tangible items, giving life to our vision.

The Importance of Feedback

At this point, engaging with our audience is critical. Feedback from potential customers can provide insights that lead to refinements. We have been putting out renders and updates on social media, and the response so far has been encouraging.

To ensure that we meet the needs and desires of watch enthusiasts, I have also initiated conversations on forums and in communities. Hearing what people love—or want to see improved—helps guide our final touches.

Encouraging feedback not only helps in polishing the final design but also builds trust between us and our supporters. It creates a sense of community around the brand, which is something I aim to nurture from the beginning.
